Proud to be a Chartered Accountant

Now, as a lot of you know I’m not one for blowing my own trumpet, but having read an article recently about an unqualified accountant, I felt it appropriate to do so!

Take a look at this article from the Nottingham Post http://bit.ly/fDZAlV

You may not know this but, anyone can call themselves an accountant – and its legal to do so! You do not need any experience or qualifications. It’s strange that a person could be fixing your car one day and then decides to call themselves an accountant the next!

I’m proud to be a Chartered Accountant – I’ve worked hard to do so. It has taken me a long time and a lot of hard work to reach the position I am in today. Not only that, being chartered means that:

  • I have undertaken a period of training with an organisation who meets the criteria set out by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England & Wales
  • I have had to pass rigorous exams on auditing, financial management, taxation, business strategy and financial reporting
  • I am required to update my skills by attending regular monthly courses which keep me updated on the latest legislation and also develop my commercial acumen. This complies with ICAEW’s scheme of Continued Professional Development (CPD)
  • I also have professional indemnity insurance
  • I am also a qualified Tax Consultant

All in all you can be assured that being Chartered means that I am qualified to do the right job for you.  Next time you see a sign for an accountant, you’ll be wondering if they are qualified – rest assured, I am!

I’d like to know what you think. Please leave a comment, ask a question, or post any insights you have.
